Ways to beat the Summer heat when your pregnant or taking hormones to get pregnant

Let’s face it, whether you’re already pregnant, or taking hormones to get pregnant, the side effects of either of these scenarios can be downright uncomfortable! You are already feeling bloated, nauseous, and don’t even start on the hot flashes, now add the normal Summer heat and it’s a recipe for disaster. We know the Summer heat may not stop you from building your family, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t things you can do to try and make it more bearable. 

Here is a list of some simple things you can do to stay cool this Summer:

Stay Hydrated

  • Drink a lot of fluids! 
  • It’s recommended that pregnant women (or women taking hormones to get pregnant) should drink 96 ounces of water a day.
  • Don’t just stick to water, make sure to include fluids with electrolytes into your daily routine.

Stay Cool

  • Stay inside if you can. 
  • If you need to be in the Summer heat, try to avoid peak heat times, and stay in the shade. 
  • Wear loose and breathable clothing

Stay Education

  • Recognize the signs for heat exhaustion to know if it’s affecting you. 
  • If you get hit with heat exhaustion get inside right away.
  • Look up daily temperatures and daily heat index so you can prepare for the day.

The Summer heat can be dangerous for you and baby if you don’t prepare yourself. Take the necessary precautions to ensure a safe (and more comfortable) summer while pregnant (or trying to get pregnant).
